Furniture Inspired By Science

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Often I wonder about mysteries of science. It’s not that I am a scientist brooding over each and very aspect of science in their own ways. Actually, off late I have come across a magazine where I discovered that even though interior designing and science were considered distant cousins as far as relevancy was concerned, this concept has changed a lot in the last few years. This change has only been brought about by brave and exploring designers who were willing to take the plunge at a price.

The result of their endeavors is the new, sleek and stylish pieces of furniture that have won many a heart of homeowners (me too). While the ‘bone-chair’ is inspired by the wonderful way the bone structure exists and grows within the body bookshelves have also been remodeled, according to the revolving structure of DNA in the human body. Not only this, the ‘Pulse-line shelf’, which can be attached to the wall and provides a combination of glamorous look and an efficient use of space. The exterior outline can be specifically designed to help it glow in the dark, like actual pulse-lines in machines do!

Furniture inspired by science takes into account features like geometry, colors and different shapes to make them more endearing and lively. Having shared with you all that I gained, I have made up my mind to practice scientific lifestyle. What say?

The Aesthetic Touch Of African Home Décor

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Since decades Africa has been (and still continues to be) one of the best resources for home decor ideas. The main reason for the popularity of African home decor is that they can complement any room atmosphere or any kind of environment.

If you are planning your home decor, I suggest that you give African home decor ideas a serious thought. The designs, inspirations, motifs can do wonders for your home too. Handcrafted African home decor items such as wall art, masks, traditional statues, weaponry, ebony woods, handcrafted & functional walking canes are popular as exquisite interior décor items and used by several interior decorators.

If you are newly married and thinking about a unique theme for your dream home you can confidently use the décor themes. In fact, with these themes, many people feel to connect with the quiet and spiritual connection of the continent. Décor items like bold accent pieces can add excitement to any dull space. Their colors, patterns, textures and designs create their own style and mood. Not only this, these unique décor pieces give a cultural lift to homes, offices or apartment, wherever they are used- and YES…they do not create the feel or sense of stuffiness too.

African furniture, textiles, carpets and skins, cushion covers, pottery, lighting accessories, sculptures, carvings and figurines still continue to impact several interiors of homes all over the world. Specially crafted by polishing pieces of wood, clay, stones, and metal, these pieces continue to receive inspirations from some of the well known interior decorators from the world.

Kitchen Decor

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Its Friday, weekend again. I’m feeling good, and in a mood to see what else is happening in kitchen design outside our normal kitchen bubble. Let’s see what we can learn, analyze and let’s have some fun.

I personally feel kitchen decoration is important. To start up with, clean up your kitchen of all the oil stains. Place some good wallpapers, pictures of fruits or any other dish go well. Next comes your kitchen tiles. Replace the old kitchen tiles (off course, if your pocket permits). You can take the help of a professional or try out some masonry yourself. Paint up your cabinets and counter tops with some new fresh color, like light brown, beige or something that matches up with your wallpaper. In place of old cabinets rope in a fresh wall shelves. Try out wooden shelves in different colors like beige, glass shelves or some wire mesh. Stools of varied shapes gives the kitchen quite a modern look. Replace your shabby containers, with cost-effective and multipurpose containers. Go green, install a plant on any corner or the house.

All done, make sure the remodeling does not effect the functionality of kitchen. Actually this is exactly what I did last weekend spicing up my kitchen. Since I am done with my – kitchen decoration, it’s time to cook some dishes for weekend party. Bye then…..
